The Holy Spirit On You In You and Through You
ABOUT THIS TEACHING

0 seconds Amen. Thank you, brother. Appreciate that prayer. Okay, guys. Here we are. 6 seconds Normally, you’re seeing the first slide of our chosen topic at this point in our discussion, but now what you’re seeing 14 seconds is our website, finding the ancient path.org. 19 seconds And the reason that you’re seeing it is because the brothers who are building it, Michael and Sean, have been doing 28 seconds some amazing things. And we wanted to start off today by just kind of filling everyone in as to what’s going on and 35 seconds give you a little walk through through some of this stuff. So Sean, why don’t you take over and kind of show us what’s what’s what. 43 seconds All right.
Well, Shabbat shalom, everyone. Um we had made some uh additions to the the formatting of the 51 seconds website and to really look at you know how can we provide some additional value for those you know getting to our 58 seconds website and you know being able to listen to the teachings and stuff. So this is the homepage you know that people can come to and it works on all 1 minute, 7 seconds your laptops, mobile devices, iPads and your phones. So, you know, going through here, uh, on the main page, we’re always 1 minute, 16 seconds going to display, you know, Ed’s latest teaching. That could be a short, that could be, you know, the Shabbat, uh, 1 minute, 24 seconds teachings that we have.
And then down here, you know, we post if somebody is posting a blog or whatever, that will show up in the bottom 1 minute, 32 seconds on our first page. Um, under our connect section, we have the I’m new, we are here, what we do, statement of faith, 1 minute, 42 seconds and then a contact form. So if you want to reach out an email um to the group um or to a ed that goes to his email inbox, 1 minute, 51 seconds you can send the message and you know you can select a reason for that whether it’s just a general inquiry, prayer 1 minute, 58 seconds request, testimonial, website feedback, zoom access or request telegram access or other. Right?
So it gives the 2 minutes, 6 seconds opportunity for people to you know get in touch with with us and um so we can 2 minutes, 13 seconds help them out. Um up here we also have what I’ve added now in these kind of move things around is I’ve added a study 2 minutes, 21 seconds section. So now we have a knowledge center. So this is um an area where the 2 minutes, 28 seconds people can go in and they can search in the uh search box. They can put a question. This will search the website 2 minutes, 36 seconds and see what teachings uh align with helping to search and to answer that question.
In the future, we have some 2 minutes, 44 seconds additional features about answering questions that we want to incorporate. But for now, it just searches the all the teachings 2 minutes, 53 seconds across the whole website and then it’ll you know provide options for whoever you know whatever question was asked and the 3 minutes, 1 second options there. I also just kind of put some buttons in here that people can click on to say, you know, just sample questions. 3 minutes, 10 seconds And then down here, we do have you can also explore by topics.
We’ll be adding more topics, but for now, based off of 3 minutes, 18 seconds the teachings that we’ve done, they’ve been pretty much grouped into these buckets of areas where we can click on. 3 minutes, 24 seconds And then down at the bottom, um, just some study resources, uh, links to the transcripts, presentations, and study 3 minutes, 33 seconds guides. So, at the end of the day, we’ll be able to drive people to get answers to their questions um, through the 3 minutes, 41 seconds teachings or through the directly through the scriptures. 3 minutes, 45 seconds If I was to click on here, what is the Torah, for example? 3 minutes, 51 seconds Now, this page right here does look a little funny.
I’m working I’ll work with Michael this week to fix it. It’s um 3 minutes, 58 seconds but this will be look a little cleaner but it’ll take you it does work so that it’s okay the the questions come up and 4 minutes, 6 seconds that the links do work to those. So if you come in here what is Torah? You get a quick answer you get the associated scriptures and then there’s also an 4 minutes, 15 seconds associated teaching that was done. Now you you can watch that teaching. So you can go down here, click on watch teaching.
4 minutes, 24 seconds And so we provided an opportunity for people to come in here, gave you a brief summary about the teaching, the key 4 minutes, 31 seconds scriptures that were used in the teachings, and there’s a myriad of questions that were answered throughout the teachings, or there could be other questions that might be related to it. 4 minutes, 42 seconds And so you can go down and there’ll be questions answered during that teaching or and then you can click on read answer and it’ll pop up a quick answer and a 4 minutes, 50 seconds key scripture so you can continue to do the research. Right? We want people to be good Bereans and get into the word themselves.
So we provide those 4 minutes, 59 seconds scripture references so they can read further. And if you keep going down you can click on these and it just cascades the questions for you. So you can go 5 minutes, 7 seconds through the other op um pieces of information that we allow the people to be able to 5 minutes, 15 seconds see. If they want to look through the transcript, they can actually search through the script transcript here with a search and it’ll come up and it’ll just find the words for you. You can 5 minutes, 24 seconds download the transcript if you want. I got a key takeaways button here and it just provides the key takeaways for the 5 minutes, 32 seconds lesson.
You can also download the slides and you also can download a guide. So, for each lesson that Ed does, we’re 5 minutes, 41 seconds creating a a study guide, and it basically takes you again summarizes the quick answer, the teaching summary, 5 minutes, 50 seconds uh, learning objectives, teaching outline, and just gives you a brief summary of some topics throughout that teaching, 5 minutes, 57 seconds the key scriptures again, and then key takeaways, and then also some discussions and study questions, and then personal study. And this just helps 6 minutes, 6 seconds for people to be able to go and print this out and follow along with the lesson.
Um or if they’re doing a group study with and pull these lessons and 6 minutes, 14 seconds work with people. So the options are there to do that. And let me just interject real quick. 6 minutes, 19 seconds That’s a super handy little thing right there because I know um coming up I I would watch a lesson online and think to myself, man, I wish I had these slides. 6 minutes, 31 seconds I wish you know sometimes you’re taking pictures of the screen because you want to capture that and you want to teach that to somebody else. Well, now you can 6 minutes, 39 seconds just download it yourself. You don’t have to worry about all of that.
If you have a small group yourself and you want to, you know, teach the things that we 6 minutes, 48 seconds taught here, you just go to the website and grab the content. That’s really helpful. Thank you, Michael. 6 minutes, 55 seconds And also through the and Sean. 6 minutes, 58 seconds Yeah, no worries. uh we have uh I have about 40 teachings uploaded into the 7 minutes, 5 seconds system. So and there’s about 820 questions associated with those teachings and study guides and stuff. So 7 minutes, 12 seconds again that’s uh and then the resources again it’s the teaching resources.
This takes you to where you can find those 7 minutes, 20 seconds resources and you can look at them and you can also download the transcripts and presentations and study guides straight from here. 7 minutes, 29 seconds Um, we do have a media page that I I reformatted. And so as we add media, um, there’s Ed’s book. You know, as we add 7 minutes, 38 seconds those resources, we could have documents that Ed might want uploaded to share. 7 minutes, 43 seconds You can find those in here. Um, so, but at least what we can put in here. I know we’ve I got a few items for Doug Hamp and his 7 minutes, 52 seconds books in here.
So again, as we gather resources that we want to share, um, we will get those approved and put on here as well. 8 minutes, 3 seconds Nice. 8 minutes, 3 seconds And with that, I didn’t change anything else. I did go through all the pages and make sure things were looking good and working good throughout the different, 8 minutes, 11 seconds but again, there’s a few bugs here and there, but if you see something, just contact us, please, and you can reach out to me directly and um I’ll make sure 8 minutes, 20 seconds things are noted and we can get them corrected if something’s um not working properly. Thank you, Ed. 8 minutes, 27 seconds Amen. Sean, thank you so much, bro.
And I I can’t begin to tell you guys how um blessed we are 8 minutes, 36 seconds that um Sean and Michael being talented in this area have taken it upon 8 minutes, 42 seconds themselves to make this so amazing. Uh we are we are all blessed and so I’m 8 minutes, 49 seconds very grateful for the two of you and I know that um David has shared his input on this and others. So TM I think has 8 minutes, 58 seconds has has helped. But I’m just grateful guys. It’s it’s amazing. We are we’re truly blessed. Truly truly world class.
Introduction to the series
9 minutes, 6 seconds Okay, here we are. The Holy Spirit on you, in you, and through you. Why am I 9 minutes, 14 seconds doing this lesson? Well, as you recall before the festivals were upon us, we were kind of in the middle of Holy 9 minutes, 21 seconds Spirit studies. And uh I said that I would come back and do one more after the festival. So that’s what we’re doing 9 minutes, 28 seconds today. Uh we’ll kind of finish up the Holy Spirit stuff minus a couple more that I’m going to be doing with um 9 minutes, 35 seconds shorts. And on the note of shorts, let me just make a confession. I did a short last Monday and last Tuesday.
I typically do shorts Monday through 9 minutes, 44 seconds Thursday. Uh, I did one Monday, did one Tuesday, sat down to prepare my thoughts for Wednesday, and I literally hit a 9 minutes, 52 seconds wall. Um, I couldn’t think, I couldn’t focus, nothing was coming out of my mouth, out of my hands, 10 minutes, 2 seconds typing, and I don’t know if it was just, you know, leftover jet lag from being in Washington, which I want to talk about that too here briefly, or just the 10 minutes, 10 seconds culmination of [snorts] the all the stuff that I’ve been doing. I I literally just hit a wall and couldn’t put anything out on um on Wednesday.
And 10 minutes, 20 seconds then on Thursday, my the company that I own had a big job that I had to be on site for literally all day. So, I didn’t 10 minutes, 29 seconds get to do anything there. And then I don’t do him on Friday. So, I want to apologize to those of you who were maybe expecting short form videos on Wednesday 10 minutes, 37 seconds and Thursday and didn’t see them. I’m going to do my best to push through times like that because it’s important that we talk about these things.
But 10 minutes, 46 seconds very briefly before we go on to the study, I just wanted to share the amazing amazing time that my wife and I 10 minutes, 54 seconds had with the Baronson’s with the Lychans with Tim and his wonderful girlfriend 11 minutes, 4 seconds Carla in Washington State. We all went up to the Baronson’s house. He hosted Sakote for us and it was just a magical 11 minutes, 14 seconds time and I know that many of you have sent me emails and sharing about your time and your experience. This was the 11 minutes, 22 seconds first Sukkot that my wife and I have been able to celebrate with other people.
11 minutes, 30 seconds We have celebrated it here up until last week in our backyard and um you know we 11 minutes, 38 seconds would we would spend time in the Sakote until the storm blew it away [laughter] and it seems like every year a storm 11 minutes, 46 seconds comes through the middle of Sakote and and blows our Sakakota away. Uh but this year we got to spend it with the brothers and sisters that we love and 11 minutes, 54 seconds man was it special. every each each night one of the brothers shared a little devotional that we got to talk 12 minutes, 1 second about afterwards. U we we went to certain sites and certain cities and 12 minutes, 8 seconds places around Puet Sound together.
We ate together, had some amazing meals together. It was just it was just 12 minutes, 17 seconds amazing. And I just can’t I can’t talk enough about how special it was. But the one thing that I wanted to really 12 minutes, 26 seconds highlight as we sat and spoke one night, David was leading us in a spirit 12 minutes, 33 seconds inspired discussion on the desert experience and it it moved us all. Uh it 12 minutes, 41 seconds moved me enough to where it was days before I stopped thinking about it. And the more I listened to the brothers and 12 minutes, 50 seconds sisters share about the desert that we’re all in, it seemed that something strange kind of happened.
The days that 12 minutes, 57 seconds followed, I started getting emails from people talking about their desert experience. And we’ve talked about this before on this channel, but I felt like 13 minutes, 7 seconds it was probably important that what we do next is have a small series of 13 minutes, 15 seconds Shabbat lessons on the desert experience. So, okay, here we are. Holy Spirit on you, in you, and through you. 13 minutes, 24 seconds Let’s jump into this.
Spirit upon vs. within
13 minutes, 26 seconds For generations, entire denominations and religious movements have built their identities around what they believe the Holy Spirit does, how he manifests 13 minutes, 35 seconds himself, and what constitutes evidence of his presence in a believer’s life. 13 minutes, 40 seconds Pentecostals and Assemblies of God churches, for example, have traditionally emphasized speaking in tongues as the initial physical evidence 13 minutes, 47 seconds of baptism in the Holy Spirit.
Other charismatic movements have gone even further, emphasizing being slain in the spirit, uncontrollable laughter, 13 minutes, 56 seconds shaking, falling to the ground, and other extraordinary physical experiences as manifestations of his power. 14 minutes, 3 seconds Meanwhile, other denominations have moved in almost the opposite direction, treating the miraculous workings of the spirit as something that belonged 14 minutes, 10 seconds exclusively to the first century assembly. But here’s the question I want us to consider. What if both sides have allowed their traditions and experiences 14 minutes, 19 seconds to influence how they understand something scripture actually explains?
14 minutes, 25 seconds That makes more sense to me than anything else, considering what we know about how often and how many ways people 14 minutes, 33 seconds have wandered off the ancient path. The spirit comes upon people. The spirit dwells in people. People are filled with 14 minutes, 43 seconds the spirit. People are baptized in the spirit and through the spirit Yhovah accomplishes his purposes in and through his servants. 14 minutes, 54 seconds Are these simply different ways of describing the same experience? Are they separate experiences? Did some of these 15 minutes, 1 second things happen only at a particular moment in biblical history?
And perhaps more importantly or most importantly, how do we distinguish the actual work of 15 minutes, 10 seconds the Holy Spirit from something people have simply been taught to believe is the Holy Spirit? Those are some of the 15 minutes, 19 seconds questions that we’re going to be answering in the course of today’s discussion. But first, I wanted to start with this. This is a question for David 15 minutes, 26 seconds and Tim. How many different ways has the Holy Spirit manifested itself himself throughout scripture? The dove is one. 15 minutes, 37 seconds Matthew 3:16, baptism of Yeshua, Holy Spirit descends on him as a dove. What else? David and Tim.
15 minutes, 47 seconds Could it be the fire per potentially in the burning bush or the fire? I mean, that’s the presence of God, but I was just thinking fire. 15 minutes, 55 seconds Okay, David. 15 minutes, 56 seconds Fire, earthquakes. Uh so yes, the dove, the wind, the breath, 16 minutes, 4 seconds the fire, and of course the seal is as a seal of 16 minutes, 11 seconds the Holy Spirit, the seal of the promise. These are some of the manifestations, I would say, the more 16 minutes, 17 seconds prominent manifestations of the spirit in scripture.
Now, it’s interesting that again in the course of this lesson, 16 minutes, 25 seconds we’re going to see the manifestation in the wind, in the fire, especially as it 16 minutes, 32 seconds pertains to the New Testament. But on, in, and through is what we are going to 16 minutes, 40 seconds discover biblically. When it comes to the power of the Holy Spirit, 16 minutes, 47 seconds we have recordings in scripture of the Holy Spirit coming on or upon somebody. 16 minutes, 55 seconds The Holy Spirit coming in to somebody and things that are done as a result of 17 minutes, 4 seconds that on and in. So through the Holy Spirit. Okay, let’s look at on or upon.
17 minutes, 13 seconds And again, for the record, some months ago, we all were presented with the question of speaking in tongues and 17 minutes, 20 seconds miraculous gifts in this group. And we all came from different backgrounds having different convictions about this 17 minutes, 28 seconds thing. And true to form, we test everything. And so, even though I had my convictions on these things, we tested 17 minutes, 36 seconds it again. And those discussions are on the channel already. So I encourage you if you want to know more about that stuff just to look it up.
In the Old 17 minutes, 44 seconds Testament, when the spirit of Yahw came upon someone, it was most often connected to a specific purpose, 17 minutes, 53 seconds assignment, or moment of divine empowerment. These events do not necessarily describe permanent indwelling. That’s key. It emphasizes Yhovah placing his spirit upon a person so that person could be equipped, 18 minutes, 9 seconds strengthened, directed or empowered to carry out what he the father had called 18 minutes, 17 seconds him or her to do. Some examples. Gideon, Judges 6, the spirit of Yhovah came upon 18 minutes, 26 seconds Gideon and then he blew the trumpet and the Abberazites gathered behind him.
I 18 minutes, 33 seconds imagine that once the Holy Spirit came upon Gideon, that trumpet blast was not anything that was considered to be normal. 18 minutes, 43 seconds It was probably a very special trumpet blast. Saul, King Saul. 1st Samuel 10. 18 minutes, 51 seconds Then the spirit of Yahw came upon him, Saul, and he did something. He prophesied among them. David 1st Samuel 19 minutes, 1 second 16. Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers, and the spirit of Yhovah came 19 minutes, 8 seconds upon David from that day forward. So, knowing what you know about Saul and 19 minutes, 15 seconds David, does anything stand out to you in the above verses?
19 minutes, 22 seconds We know that the spirit was removed from Saul. Remember, because of his rebellion 19 minutes, 29 seconds and his sin, David, the spirit remained even though he had sin, right? Both of 19 minutes, 37 seconds them had sin. Yet the spirit was removed from Saul and with David it remained. Let’s explore some of this a little bit. 19 minutes, 45 seconds 1st Samuel 10. Then Samuel took a flask of oil, Samuel the prophet, and poured it on his head and kissed him and said, 19 minutes, 53 seconds “Is it not because Yhovah has anointed you commander over his inheritance?
When you have departed from me today, you will find two men,” he’s talking to Saul 20 minutes, 1 second here, “you will find two men by Rachel’s tomb in the territory of Benjamin at Zela. And they will say to you, “The 20 minutes, 8 seconds donkeys which you went to look for have been found. And now your father has ceased caring about the donkeys and is worrying about you, saying, “What shall 20 minutes, 17 seconds I do about my son?” Then you shall go on forward from there and come to the terab tree of Tabore.
There three men going up 20 minutes, 24 seconds to Yacht Bethl will meet you, one carrying three uh three young goats, another carrying three loaves of bread, 20 minutes, 32 seconds and another carrying a skin of wine. and they will greet you and give you two loaves of bread which you shall receive 20 minutes, 38 seconds from their hands. After that you shall come to the hill of Yahw where the Philistine garrison is. And it will happen when you have come there to the 20 minutes, 47 seconds city that you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with a stringed instrument, a tambourine, a flute, and a harp before 20 minutes, 55 seconds them. And they will be prophesying.
Then the spirit of Yhovah will come upon you. That’s key language there upon you. 21 minutes, 5 seconds We’re going to see it over and over again. And you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. And then 21 minutes, 13 seconds verse 9. So it was when he had turned back to go from Samuel that Yahw gave 21 minutes, 19 seconds him another heart and all those signs came to pass that day. The spirit of Yah 21 minutes, 28 seconds is coming upon Saul for a very specific purpose. We’re going to look at that in a moment. But it says as a result, he’s going to be turned into another man. 21 minutes, 39 seconds What do you think that’s trying to say, Tim and David?
21 minutes, 42 seconds Manifestation of God’s spirit or just a different creation being from God. Maybe somewhere along those lines what I’m 21 minutes, 49 seconds thinking being another man in terms of not physically but in terms of maybe the way he speaks in his message. Yeah. 21 minutes, 59 seconds being more of a a messenger direct messenger of God. 22 minutes, 2 seconds Yeah. From a personal experience, let me just share this. What I believe is happening here is that phenomenon when 22 minutes, 10 seconds it’s no longer you really speaking. It’s the Holy Spirit speaking through you.
22 minutes, 16 seconds Even the brother Richard prayed this morning that we would hear the father’s heart today in my lesson. And I say amen to that. And that’s really the always the goal when a person like me teaches. 22 minutes, 28 seconds We we want ourselves to kind of be removed from the scenario and just let the truth of the word be known. But I 22 minutes, 36 seconds can tell you from a personal experience, there have been times when for one reason or another, I go back and I watch 22 minutes, 44 seconds one of our other discussions where I’m teaching something and I’m listening and there’s been several times where I have to sit back and go, “Wow, did I say 22 minutes, 53 seconds that?
[laughter] I don’t remember those words coming out of my mouth. And I I can only reckon that to the, you know, the Holy Spirit speaking things that I’ve said, and I know that you can all probably all share 23 minutes, 9 seconds the same in your interactions with other people. It doesn’t just happen with teachers like me. It can happen with any individual where the words coming out of 23 minutes, 17 seconds your mouth, you just know, holy cow, where’s this coming from? And you’re being turned into another man. You’re being turned into another woman because 23 minutes, 26 seconds the father has given you a new heart as a new covenant believer.
Well, we can see that actually happening under the 23 minutes, 34 seconds old covenant as well where Saul was given another heart. He 23 minutes, 40 seconds was turned into another man when the spirit of Yahw came upon him. And we’re 23 minutes, 47 seconds going to again, we’re going to see why here in a moment. However, one caveat needs to be made here. The Holy Spirit,
David, Saul, and free will
23 minutes, 55 seconds as I said earlier, was removed from Saul because he repeatedly disobeyed Yhovah 24 minutes, 2 seconds and refused to submit to his word. As a result, Yahw rejected him as king and 24 minutes, 10 seconds the spirit departed from him. Why did the spirit remain with David? Well, David also sinned grieviously. But when 24 minutes, 18 seconds he was confronted, he acknowledged his sin and repented. He even pleaded at it in Psalm 51. Do not take your Holy 24 minutes, 27 seconds Spirit from me. Why do you think he asked that? Because he saw it happened with Saul, right? And he is aware.
He’s 24 minutes, 36 seconds being confronted with his sin and now begging the father not to take it from him. But there’s something else here 24 minutes, 44 seconds that we can learn. What else does it tell us here when we think about this story between David and Saul? Well, the Holy Spirit’s not going to violate your 24 minutes, 53 seconds free will. We can still sin. Sorry, typo. 24 minutes, 57 seconds Saul had the Holy Spirit. He was given a new heart, but he sinned. He errored and didn’t repent. And we all have that 25 minutes, 4 seconds ability. Even though even though we have the indwelling Holy Spirit which is altogether different as I said we’re going to look at here in a moment. So
Indwelling and empowerment
25 minutes, 13 seconds verse six says Saul would become another man 25 minutes, 19 seconds and verse 9 says Saul was given another heart. It’s important that we understand 25 minutes, 26 seconds that this does not mean he transformed into something other than himself. Right? 25 minutes, 34 seconds It’s metaphorical and this does not equate with the promised new heart and spirit of Ezekiel 25 minutes, 43 seconds 36 and Jeremiah 31. This is altogether different. This is the father showing 25 minutes, 50 seconds that he can do what he wants, when he wants, and why he wants.
Just like the thief on the cross, we have certain 25 minutes, 59 seconds commands in the New Testament about what it means to come to faith and what a person needs to do in order to come 26 minutes, 6 seconds under covenant. But none of that happened with the thief on the cross. 26 minutes, 10 seconds Why? Because he has the authority. He has the authority to save anybody he wants, any day he wants, any way he wants. 26 minutes, 19 seconds And this is very similar. 26 minutes, 22 seconds He has the authority to give his spirit to whom he wants when he wants for whatever purpose he wants.
But we can’t 26 minutes, 32 seconds confuse what we’re seeing here with the promised coming of the Holy Spirit in our hearts, the word in our hearts 26 minutes, 40 seconds that’s prophesied in Ezekiel 36 and Jeremiah 31. But we still have to ask the question, why was this happening? 26 minutes, 49 seconds Why did the father give Saul [snorts] another heart? Why did the spirit of Yahw come upon Saul? And why was he quote unquote turned into another man? 27 minutes, 1 second Well, for a singular purpose. 27 minutes, 6 seconds 1st Samuel 10:1.
Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head and kissed him and said, “Is it not 27 minutes, 12 seconds because Yhovah has anointed you commander over his inheritance?” Man, what a responsibility. 27 minutes, 23 seconds I mean, it’s one thing to be appointed king. It’s a whole another thing to be 27 minutes, 30 seconds appointed and anointed as commander over the father’s inheritance. [laughter] 27 minutes, 38 seconds That’s a big deal. And in order for you to be successful in that, you need what? You need his Holy Spirit. 27 minutes, 47 seconds You need to be given a new heart.
What scripture teaches is that Saul received the spirit in connection with his 27 minutes, 55 seconds appointment. that the spirit empowered him for leadership and that the spirit subsequently departed 28 minutes, 3 seconds after Yhovah rejected him as king. And this is the pattern that we see in the Hebrew scriptures, the Old Testament. 28 minutes, 13 seconds The spirit was given for the purpose of building in Exodus 31. See, I have called by my name Bezale, the son of 28 minutes, 22 seconds Yuri, the son of Hor, the son of the tribe of Judah. And I have filled him with the spirit of Yah in wisdom, in 28 minutes, 32 seconds understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.
Why did he do this? Because this fellow was going to 28 minutes, 40 seconds be responsible for building the tabernacle. So the father filled him with his spirit so that he could 28 minutes, 47 seconds accomplish something that he otherwise couldn’t have all by himself. We see it for the purposes of prophesying in 28 minutes, 54 seconds numbers 11. Yhovah came down in the cloud and spoke to him and took of the spirit that was upon him and placed the 29 minutes, 1 second same upon the 70 elders. And it happened when the spirit rested upon them.
Again, 29 minutes, 8 seconds pay attention to the verbiage, the language here, that the spirit rested upon them, that they did something, 29 minutes, 16 seconds they prophesied, and then interestingly enough, they never did so again. So here 29 minutes, 23 seconds in Numbers 11, it’s almost as if a temporary grant, if you will, of the Holy Spirit 29 minutes, 32 seconds rested upon the 70 elders so that they could prophesy and then it never happens 29 minutes, 39 seconds again. Which means that ability, that spirit was removed, not in a disciplinary manner, but just removed. 29 minutes, 47 seconds the the accomplishment had been done and so it was removed.
We see it in Judges 3 29 minutes, 54 seconds for the purposes of leadership. When the children of Israel cried out to Yhovah, Yhovah raised up a deliverer for the 30 minutes, 2 seconds children of Israel who delivered them, Oneil son of Kanaz, Caleb’s younger brother. The spirit of Yhovah came upon him and he judged Israel. 30 minutes, 14 seconds So again, we see just like Saul, the Holy Spirit was coming upon this 30 minutes, 24 seconds individual for the purpose of him being able to judge or lead Israel. This was 30 minutes, 31 seconds the time when there was no kings and the father raised up judges to lead Israel during this time.
This has faint 30 minutes, 41 seconds remindings of or it’s kind of similar to John 16 like verse 13 where Yeshua says that the spirit of truth you know has 30 minutes, 48 seconds come and and he will guide us into all truth and says Yeshua will not speak on his own authority but whatever he hears he will speak and it feels very similar as far as consistency. Yeah, we’re going to see a lot of similarities here as we move into the New Testament for certain. Thank you Jim. So it’s important to know at this point that none of these is the 31 minutes, 8 seconds indwelling Holy Spirit. Now what do I mean by indwelling Holy Spirit, David? Acts two.
31 minutes, 15 seconds Yeah, Acts two, but define it. That’s the Holy Spirit that comes to indwell us to dwell within us, right? 31 minutes, 21 seconds I dwell within us as opposed to guide us in our daily lives, you know, point us back to being on the narrow 31 minutes, 28 seconds path and and [snorts] guiding us in our daily lives. But then I guess as you’re pointing out here, beyond just the 31 minutes, 35 seconds ongoing lives, there are specific events with a specific purpose. And in those cases, that’s when the spirit, you know, 31 minutes, 43 seconds potentially we get, as you would say, maybe an extra dose of the Holy Spirit to guide you for a specific purpose and a specific time.
I guess that’s kind of 31 minutes, 51 seconds what I’m getting out of what you’re teaching. 31 minutes, 53 seconds Yeah. Yeah. I agree with all of that. So through you, let’s talk about the indwelling Holy Spirit, a resident presence within. What makes the following prophecies so significant is that they describe something beyond the 32 minutes, 9 seconds spirit coming upon certain individuals to empower them for particular assignments. 32 minutes, 17 seconds They anticipate a time when Yhovah would place his spirit within his people, not 32 minutes, 25 seconds upon his people. Again, remember the verbiage within, not upon.
Transform 32 minutes, 33 seconds their hearts and enable them to walk in obedience. Ezekiel 36. I will give you a 32 minutes, 41 seconds new heart and put a new spirit within you. I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of 32 minutes, 48 seconds flesh and I will put my spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes and you will keep my judgments and do 32 minutes, 57 seconds them. So what David just said is absolutely true. The purpose one of them 33 minutes, 4 seconds of the new spirit that we’re getting within us is to do what? is to cause us 33 minutes, 11 seconds to walk in his statutes and keep his judgments and do them.
And Paul confirms 33 minutes, 17 seconds this in Romans 8. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending his own son in 33 minutes, 26 seconds the likeness of sinful flesh on account of sin. He condemned sin in the flesh. 33 minutes, 32 seconds Here is the point that the righteous requirement of the law might be 33 minutes, 40 seconds fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to 33 minutes, 47 seconds the spirit. I’ve read that verse a bazillion times.
33 minutes, 52 seconds There’s something incredibly profound in here that some people, a lot of people, most people just miss because lawful 34 minutes, 1 second obedience isn’t on their radar as it should. But Paul is basically confirming 34 minutes, 8 seconds Ezekiel 36 here. What do I see? What am I always seeing in scripture? 34 minutes, 15 seconds Equations. And I see one here. 34 minutes, 19 seconds It says the righteous requirement of the law. What is the righteous requirement of the law? 34 minutes, 26 seconds That we obey it, that we are obedient to the requirement of the law, that it might be fulfilled. What does that mean? 34 minutes, 36 seconds Well, it means that to obey.
It means to obey the righteous requirement of the law. If the righteous requirement of the 34 minutes, 44 seconds law is obedience, then it’s fulfilled when we obey. 34 minutes, 49 seconds How do we do that? Because of the spirit. Because of the Holy Spirit that he put inside of our hearts. So you 34 minutes, 58 seconds might look at Romans 8 and breeze right past that and never connect it to Ezekiel 36 or Jeremiah 31 when in 35 minutes, 7 seconds actuality you absolutely should because Paul in his usual confusing way of 35 minutes, 14 seconds saying things is basically saying the same thing. But how does one receive the indwelling Holy 35 minutes, 23 seconds Spirit?
Here’s where we’re going to get into some of our New Testament stuff. 35 minutes, 27 seconds Matthew 28 and Mark 16 says something very interesting. These are Yeshua’s final words right before he departed in 35 minutes, 37 seconds Matthew 28. Go make disciples of all nations and baptize them in the name of the father, son, and the holy spirit. 35 minutes, 44 seconds Mark 16, his record, those who believe and are baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned. 35 minutes, 54 seconds So baptism has something to do with this. Baptism has a great deal to do with this.
There’s something about baptism that we should be paying 36 minutes, 2 seconds attention to if in both accounts baptism is mentioned in connection with making disciples and coming to faith. I think that would be a safe assumption to make. 36 minutes, 14 seconds But why baptism? Why baptism? Well, David mentioned it. Acts two, we see this. What’s happening in Acts two? 36 minutes, 23 seconds Before we go on, this is right after the flames rested on people’s heads and they 36 minutes, 31 seconds began speaking in other tongues, the coming of the Holy Spirit here at Pentecost. Peter stands up, explains to 36 minutes, 38 seconds them what’s going on.
And he tells them that they have to repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of 36 minutes, 47 seconds Yeshua for the remission or forgiveness of your sins. And then what? You shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 36 minutes, 57 seconds This is the indwelling Holy Spirit. This is the spirit prophesied in Ezekiel 36 and in Jeremiah 31. 37 minutes, 9 seconds This spirit that you receive at baptism. 37 minutes, 13 seconds However, there is another baptism taking place in Acts 2 and other chapters that 37 minutes, 20 seconds is not the indwelling Holy Spirit.
And let me just say that this issue has 37 minutes, 29 seconds confused a great many believer and if I’m honest, a great many pastors and teachers. 37 minutes, 38 seconds It confused me for a number of years until I took the time to really understand this. But we need to in this 37 minutes, 46 seconds lesson understand the difference between the indwelling Holy Spirit and what some call the baptism of the Holy Spirit. 37 minutes, 55 seconds They are not the same. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is what happened before this. When the day of Pentecost had 38 minutes, 4 seconds fully come, they were all with all one accord in one place.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as a rushing 38 minutes, 11 seconds mighty wind. And it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Could you imagine being there? A tornado is happening, but it’s not happening outside. 38 minutes, 20 seconds It’s happening inside. It filled the whole house where they were sitting. 38 minutes, 25 seconds Then all of a sudden there appeared to be divided tongues as of fire and one sat upon each of them and they were all 38 minutes, 33 seconds filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance.
What’s happening 38 minutes, 42 seconds here based on everything that we’ve just looked at in the Old Testament? What’s happening here? David, Tim, 38 minutes, 51 seconds the spirit of God is coming upon the people there for the purpose of this monumentous event. 38 minutes, 59 seconds Exactly. 39 minutes, 1 second What all those things that we saw in the Old Testament, this is happening here. 39 minutes, 7 seconds The Holy Spirit is coming upon each of them. They were filled with the Holy 39 minutes, 13 seconds Spirit to do what? to speak in other tongues as the spirit gave them 39 minutes, 21 seconds utterance. This is a baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Is this the only baptism of the Holy Spirit that we see in the New 39 minutes, 29 seconds Testament? No. But we have to understand where else we have to know where we need to understand that this is not the
Baptism and the Spirit
39 minutes, 36 seconds indwelling Holy Spirit. Remember our earlier slides where we learned that the Holy Spirit was given to some in the Old 39 minutes, 43 seconds Testament in order for them to perform things that were quote beyond their ability for the building of the 39 minutes, 52 seconds sanctuary for prophesying for leadership. So this was a pouring out of 39 minutes, 58 seconds the Holy Spirit to enable these men and women to be able to do something that was beyond their natural ability. 40 minutes, 8 seconds Speaking in tonesues. Why speaking in tonesues? 40 minutes, 14 seconds Because there was people there from every nation celebrating Pentecost.
40 minutes, 20 seconds Acts two, there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. 40 minutes, 32 seconds And they all needed to hear this. 40 minutes, 38 seconds Men of Israel, hear these words. Yeshua of Nazareth, a man attested by Yhovah to you by miracles, wonders, and signs, 40 minutes, 47 seconds which Yahw did through him in your midst, as you yourselves also know him, being delivered by the determined 40 minutes, 55 seconds purpose and fornowledge of Yhovah. You stop. 41 minutes, 3 seconds Who? Who’s you? 41 minutes, 6 seconds The you are these Jews from every nation under heaven who were not even there most likely when Yeshua was crucified.
41 minutes, 16 seconds And yet he is placing the responsibility on them just as the responsibility falls on us. 41 minutes, 27 seconds you, us, we have taken by lawless hands 41 minutes, 33 seconds have crucified and put to death whom Yah raised up having destroyed the pains of 41 minutes, 40 seconds death because it was not possible that he should be held by it. So this miracle 41 minutes, 47 seconds of the baptism of the Holy Spirit was for the purpose of making sure that 41 minutes, 54 seconds every ear was able to hear this message while they were in Jerusalem.
42 minutes, 3 seconds Because as a result of them hearing this message, the message would go outside of Jerusalem when they all went home. 42 minutes, 14 seconds So the baptism of the Holy Spirit enabling people to speak in languages that there were beyond their ability. 42 minutes, 21 seconds They didn’t learn these languages was for that purpose. This is the pouring out of the Holy Spirit as prophesied by Joel. 42 minutes, 31 seconds So we’ve we’ve looked at three different prophecies now. 42 minutes, 35 seconds Ezekiel 36, Jeremiah 31, both talking about the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. But this one 42 minutes, 44 seconds that Peter recalls from this prophet Joel is different.
42 minutes, 49 seconds It shall come to pass in the last days, says Yahw, that I will pour out my spirit. Pour out, pour upon 42 minutes, 58 seconds my spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters going to prophesy. That’s the result of the poured out Holy Spirit. Your young men will see visions. 43 minutes, 8 seconds That’s the result of the pouring of the Holy Spirit. Your old men will dream dreams, men, men servants and maid 43 minutes, 15 seconds servants. I’ll pour out my spirit and they shall prophesy. Do you see the connection?
We just spent the morning looking at the Holy Spirit being poured 43 minutes, 24 seconds out and being poured upon certain individuals so that they could do something that was beyond their natural 43 minutes, 30 seconds ability. And here, Acts two, all these things are happening. They’re being poured out on these people on all flesh, 43 minutes, 38 seconds sons, daughters, young men, young women, old men, old women, men servants, maid servants to do something that was beyond 43 minutes, 46 seconds their natural ability, to do something that they don’t usually do. And we see this throughout the book of Acts. But 43 minutes, 54 seconds how is this different than the indwelling Holy Spirit?
Well, let’s talk about that. The indwelling Holy Spirit comes to a person as a result of their 44 minutes, 1 second faith in Yeshua who through repentance displays a circumcised heart to obey him. That is important. Acts two and Acts 5. We already looked at Acts two. 44 minutes, 13 seconds But what does it say? Repent and repent and. 44 minutes, 21 seconds What does that mean? That’s if then. If you repent, when you repent, you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 44 minutes, 32 seconds Acts five strengthens what I’m trying to say here. We are witnesses to these things.
And so also is the Holy Spirit 44 minutes, 41 seconds whom Yahw has given to those who obey him, to those who have repented. 44 minutes, 48 seconds So that’s a very important thing. 44 minutes, 51 seconds We don’t get to come into covenant just by crying out and saying Yeshua is Lord. 44 minutes, 58 seconds That’s the great start. No, no. We we have to have our hearts circumcised to obey him, to follow him, 45 minutes, 7 seconds to love him. And when the father sees that in the individual, then he gives them their Holy Spirit. 45 minutes, 17 seconds But that happens at baptism. 45 minutes, 20 seconds But we have to consider the implications of those two verses.
What are the implications of those two verses? When you think about religion today, 45 minutes, 29 seconds how many thousands if not millions of people just signed up for church? They just joined a church for one reason or 45 minutes, 36 seconds another because they thought it was supposed to be a good thing. Their mom and dad said they probably should. They thought they probably should, but they 45 minutes, 44 seconds never went into it with the intent of truly obeying Yeshua. They may have even been baptized. They they may have, you 45 minutes, 52 seconds know, done all the sacraments but never with the heart to truly obey him.
We have to ask the question according to 45 minutes, 59 seconds Acts 5, how many of those people were not given the Holy Spirit and thus are living a life of religion outside of the Holy Spirit and they don’t even know it. 46 minutes, 10 seconds These verses have huge implications. Now, of course, we’re never the judge. 46 minutes, 16 seconds We don’t get to judge that. Only the father does. But we have to be aware that it exists. 46 minutes, 23 seconds But this is all altogether different from what some call the baptism of the holy spirit, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Let’s look at this. Acts 8.
Now 46 minutes, 32 seconds when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of Yah, that’s a good thing. What does 46 minutes, 39 seconds that mean? That means they were repenting. They were accepting it. They wanted to obey it. They sent Peter and 46 minutes, 47 seconds John to them, who when they had come down prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. H for as yet he 46 minutes, 56 seconds had fallen upon none of them. There’s that word fallen upon, they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord 47 minutes, 5 seconds Yeshua. Well, what happens at that baptism? 47 minutes, 8 seconds We just looked at it. Acts 2:38 in the verse above.
47 minutes, 13 seconds When you’re baptized in the name of Yeshua, you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 47 minutes, 19 seconds So when it says they had only been baptized in the name of the ho of the Lord Yeshua, that means they had already given the indwelling Holy Spirit, but 47 minutes, 29 seconds the baptism of the Holy Spirit had not yet happened upon them. It had not 47 minutes, 35 seconds fallen upon them. So they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit. the baptism of the Holy Spirit. 47 minutes, 45 seconds Now, these Samaritans were given the ability to do something that was beyond their ability before, most likely a 47 minutes, 54 seconds speaking in tongues.
Again, not limited to, but most likely. Again, the message had to get out. But we see here in Acts two, both of these things happening, and we have to 48 minutes, 9 seconds understand the difference. Baptism in the name of the Lord Yeshua is the indwelling Holy Spirit. 48 minutes, 17 seconds Laying on of hands and somebody receiving or having the Holy Spirit fall upon them is the baptism of the Holy 48 minutes, 26 seconds Spirit and they are two different things and this is the pattern we see throughout the book of Acts. 48 minutes, 36 seconds Acts 9. And Annas went his way and entered the house, laying his hands on him, Saul, Paul.
He said, “Brother Saul, 48 minutes, 46 seconds the master Yeshua, who’s appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be 48 minutes, 53 seconds filled with the Holy Spirit.” Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received 49 minutes, 1 second his sight at once, and he arose and was baptized. 49 minutes, 6 seconds So here we see both of them happening again. Acts 10. While Peter was still 49 minutes, 13 seconds speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.
49 minutes, 19 seconds And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished as many as came with Peter because of the gift of the 49 minutes, 26 seconds Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 49 minutes, 33 seconds For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify Yah spirit being poured out 49 minutes, 40 seconds Gentiles doing something that they didn’t know how to do. 49 minutes, 45 seconds Then Peter answered, “Can anyone forbid water that these should not be baptized 49 minutes, 53 seconds who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” What do we see? the spirit being poured out upon the Gentiles so that they could do something that was beyond their ability.
Peter says, “These 50 minutes, 9 seconds people need to be baptized. And when they get baptized, they’re going to have the indwelling Holy Spirit.” Do we see 50 minutes, 17 seconds the difference here? Acts 19, when they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Yeshua. What happens 50 minutes, 26 seconds when a person is baptized in the name of the Lord Yeshua? Acts two, forgiveness of sins and filled with the Holy Spirit. 50 minutes, 34 seconds But when Paul laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit did what, David? 50 minutes, 41 seconds Came upon them. And then they did what, Tim? 50 minutes, 48 seconds They spoke tongues and prophesied.
50 minutes, 52 seconds Okay, so we see again two things happening here in scripture. The Holy 50 minutes, 59 seconds Spirit fell upon, came upon, or was given via the laying on of hands for the purpose 51 minutes, 8 seconds of prophesying in languages that they had never studied in order for the message to be heard by all. Now, this is 51 minutes, 18 seconds a kind of a controversial statement for some. We do not see this happening after the times of the apostles. 51 minutes, 27 seconds And this is where you start getting into questions about uh Pentecostalism and assemblies of God and the miraculous 51 minutes, 35 seconds gifts and speaking in tongues and all that kind of stuff.
No, I think it’s clear when we when we look at scripture, 51 minutes, 44 seconds when we understand what’s happening, Pentecost at this time was a key pivotal moment in the history of Yahw’s kingdom 51 minutes, 53 seconds on earth. Jews from around the world were going to be in one place at one time. Many of these Jews born and raised in the countries that they came from, 52 minutes, 6 seconds not speaking Hebrew, but they were there because Pentecost was a pilgrimage and is a pilgrimage festival.
52 minutes, 14 seconds The Holy Spirit took advantage of that moment and gave the surrounding people, 52 minutes, 21 seconds Jew, Gentile, Samaritan alike, the ability to speak the glories of Yah 52 minutes, 29 seconds in languages that they never studied so that all of these people could hear 52 minutes, 36 seconds the message and then take it beyond the city. 52 minutes, 42 seconds Amen. So my personal conviction is tongues as we see it in scripture is no longer necessary. 52 minutes, 50 seconds We have the word available in every language under heaven written digitally 52 minutes, 57 seconds in all kinds of formats. Does that mean the father can’t do it?
Of course there father can do anything he wants to. But 53 minutes, 5 seconds is the need for it there now? No. It’s not the language of angels. It’s it’s none of that stuff that the that the 53 minutes, 13 seconds churches have told you that it was. And again, if you want more information about that, I encourage you to go back and look at our lessons on tongues, on the miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit.
53 minutes, 24 seconds But I wanted us to understand this morning as kind of a final lesson on the spirit the difference between the 53 minutes, 34 seconds prophecies Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Joel and the differences in the spirit coming 53 minutes, 42 seconds upon somebody versus being within them and the results of both. 53 minutes, 50 seconds So Ed, can I say something? 53 minutes, 52 seconds I certainly can. And as we finish up, brother, go ahead.
Community discussion
53 minutes, 56 seconds I do think it’s important to highlight in the messianic movement or Torah observer movement that many people believe that that Acts 5:32 54 minutes, 5 seconds uh means that a person must establish first establish a record of Toro obedience to qualify for the Holy Spirit. Oh, good point. 54 minutes, 13 seconds And so I just this is a pervasive thought in this community and I just feel like we need to bring it up. I I do think they’re missing out, you know, a couple things. Obviously, Colossians 54 minutes, 21 seconds 2:12 says that at baptism, there’s a circumcision that’s being done, you know, from our sinful nature.
Also, 1 54 minutes, 28 seconds John 5:7-8 says that the three are in agreement, the water, the spirit, and the blood when we are born again through 54 minutes, 35 seconds after faith, repentance, lordship, and at baptism. But I do think it is a confusing thought, and I just wanted to 54 minutes, 42 seconds at least mention that that’s a pervasive thought um here in our community. 54 minutes, 48 seconds Thank you, brother. And that’s a very good point. David, you wanted to say something one time. 54 minutes, 52 seconds A couple things I wanted to say. Um, oh, David Merrell, I’ll give you give 54 minutes, 59 seconds you the floor in a minute. Um, what a couple of comments that I had.
55 minutes, 4 seconds Number one, you said uh at the end you said that uh this this the we don’t we 55 minutes, 11 seconds no longer need tongues and therefore that doesn’t happen or doesn’t need to happen anymore because we have the word 55 minutes, 18 seconds of God translated over that uh in every language. Uh but I think that the statement that you made at the beginning of the lesson uh still applies that the 55 minutes, 26 seconds spirit still comes upon people for the purpose of spreading the message in the same way you described at the beginning. You’re teaching something and 55 minutes, 35 seconds all of a sudden you say something that is not from you. It had to come from the spirit.
Right? So the what you I just 55 minutes, 42 seconds wanted to clarify that the the spirit coming upon someone didn’t cease with the apostles. It’s maybe this particular 55 minutes, 51 seconds uh method or means of communication by saying okay uh you don’t all of a sudden get the ability to speak a completely different language you don’t know that doesn’t apply anymore because maybe that’s not needed but the ultimate purpose is to communicate a message right and and the spirit of God comes 56 minutes, 8 seconds upon you for that. So, uh, that was one thing I wanted to do.
And then the other thing and and trying to remember, I’m sure we you’ve already had a lesson 56 minutes, 16 seconds about baptism, uh, but again, you you speak about it quite a bit in in this context. And and again just to remind everybody and and this is something that 56 minutes, 25 seconds again people because they don’t have the context is maybe and maybe you need to do another lesson or or clarify that a little bit 56 minutes, 32 seconds more about what is the connection and why is baptism need to happen before you receive the Holy Spirit.
what is the 56 minutes, 41 seconds purpose of baptism and the fact that baptism is not a New Testament invention but it is actually you know something 56 minutes, 49 seconds that is very common and widely uh practiced in the Hebrew Bible and what’s the purpose of it and why is it that he 56 minutes, 57 seconds makes that connection between having to be baptized having to be purified in order to have the spirit the Holy 57 minutes, 7 seconds Spirit indwell in a sinful person, right? I mean, I totally agree, bro. And I think that’s 57 minutes, 16 seconds a great idea.
Maybe we can pick that up um after our next series and kind of come around to that, do a full lesson on 57 minutes, 24 seconds the mikvah, baptism, all that stuff would be awesome. Maybe you can help me with it. 57 minutes, 32 seconds Okay, brother Mero, you’re up next. I heard that. I heard that. 57 minutes, 39 seconds Hey, Ed. Great lesson. Um, I think one part of this whole, um, lesson here that would make it a lot 57 minutes, 47 seconds more clarifying is something that David just hit on. Um, the word baptism is actually a transliteration. It’s not a 57 minutes, 53 seconds translation. So, when it says to baptize, it’s really saying to immerse.
And throughout scripture, that’s not always in just water. So to immerse somebody in the name of the son or the 58 minutes, 8 seconds father or the holy spirit would mean to expose them to it to teach them about it to teach them why he came. Now there is 58 minutes, 16 seconds obviously water immersion but everywhere in scripture is not always water immersion.
So there is a huge difference 58 minutes, 24 seconds between a translation transliteration which you know I’m sure um to immerse somebody in the sun or the spirit or any 58 minutes, 32 seconds of this stuff is to teach them it can be I’m saying I I mean it can be to to mean to teach them about the sun to immerse 58 minutes, 41 seconds them in the son to immerse them in the father and his instructions to teach them this stuff and the spirit will be poured out on you or to teach them what 58 minutes, 49 seconds the spirit does right so it’s not always water baptism. It’s not always that cleansing or the migva. There’s other 58 minutes, 56 seconds contexts of immersion.
It’s not just always water. Thank you. 59 minutes, 3 seconds Well, thank you, brother. I will I will make sure to include language to that in that discussion that I just agreed to 59 minutes, 10 seconds with David Baronson. So, the two Davids with input this morning. Thank you guys. Uh, okay, Richard, you’re up. 59 minutes, 18 seconds I’m glad I’m glad that David got you.
uh cornered into doing another uh another discussion or teaching about that 59 minutes, 25 seconds because one of the uh topics that has recently come to light in my own walk uh as you know during Sakote me and my 59 minutes, 32 seconds bride we got uh we recommitted uh to the faith uh through Amigva uh and [snorts] one of the questions 59 minutes, 41 seconds that I have surrounding that uh when I was raised up in the uh the Protestant 59 minutes, 49 seconds Pentecostal holiness the denomination that I’ll I’ll leave unnamed. Uh I had a moment at a children’s uh event uh where 59 minutes, 58 seconds I thought I was saved at 8 years old.
Uh then after probably about 25 or 30 years of just living life on the run like a prodical son, I came back uh in 2012. Now, at that point in time, there I I joined in with a non-denominational church and which is now could now technically be considered a mega church and they had one of the parking lot baptisms where they just run, you know, a couple hundred people through a swimming pool and called it baptism. Yeah. I would like to hear your thoughts on that because even then I don’t know even though I I did experience a a repentance. I still continued to walk in sin for a good number of years.
uh even though I was a little bit more walking in the right direction uh but still committing sin on a daily basis versus what this last when we decided to recommit and that’s why I called it a recommmit uh was kind of like renewing my vows if you would in the covenant marriage um I would like to understand from and be more of a technical person the order of operations repentance then baptism and than what you know the indwelling of the Holy Spirit because from 2012 until now I cannot deny that [clears throat] the father and the ruach have been operating in my life.
But when I made that agreement in 2012 that was in the modern American western Christian culture that still was very permissive of everything that I was doing and you know it’s covered under grace. you’re going to be okay versus the walk that I’m on now where I am to pursue it and my heart truly is committed to I would lay down my life for this walk where in 2012 I could not say that.
So, if you could kind of touch on that, I think there’s a lot of fertile ground for people who are coming out of the the Christianity side of things that well, I got baptized when I was such and such age, whether it be a child, whether it be a teenager as part of an emotional, you know, call and movement so the church could claim they baptized, you know, thousands of people. The Holy Spirit’s moving here versus what it means to actually legitimately and honestly commit to I have repented and I am laying down my life and servitude to the kingdom. Brother, that’s a great question and let me answer it in two ways.
One, back in my old day, back when I was in the church, we, including myself, were very accustomed, very happy to tell other people, unless you do A, B, and C our way, you’re not saved. You’re going to hell. I obviously see the incredible error in that decision that I made so many years ago and others made and still making if they’re still plugged into the church. Um I I um how do I say this? You talk about protocol and I do believe the father tells us in many cases eludes to what you and I might consider to be protocol for for coming into the kingdom for having our sins washed away for you know just coming under covenant.
However, any anytime we look at something like that and go, “Ah, that’s it. That’s the way. Let’s paste it up on the wall and say boom, boom, boom.” And then, but just by human nature, we begin judging other people based on our perceived protocol. And I think that’s where we we leave the ancient path. That’s where we fall short because we’re never the judge. I mean, Christ made it clear by saving the thief on the cross that he can do what he wants when he wants and save whenever he wants. Okay? So, when when someone comes to me, I ask them about these things that I I think are protocol, but I’m not as concerned about when they did that or when they did that.
Now, unless they’re babies, that’s a whole different ball of wax, and we’ll have to include infant and and you know, baptism of children in our lesson. Um, but for an adult, I I try to leave my heart open and I look for in that person. And if I have a question in my heart about whether say Richard is is under covenant, I look for the fruit of the Holy Spirit in you before I start asking about whether or not you checked off the boxes of the protocol. That’s my first reaction. Whereas in the past, I’d be more concerned about your protocol than your the fruit. I can tell by just interacting with someone that they they have the fruit of their spirit.
They’re displaying his his work in their lives. I can also tell the opposite. When I’m talking to somebody and they they may talk a fantastic religious story, but man, there’s just something about him or her. You can just tell it’s just something’s not right. So, I that’s that’s what I would say. The second thing I would say is this. Sounds like David Baronson. Should we do a lesson on baptism, a part two to answer these questions next week and move on to the wilderness after that? Do you think that would be wise? Yeah, it sounds like it’s still connected to this uh series. So, I think it might be a great capstone uh lesson to have. Absolutely. Okay, then we’ll do that.
If I may, one last point. I in no way I don’t want to be misunderstood. In no way am I equating the protocol with salvation. Yeah. To me is a completely different uh topic or concept. Uh that is much much greater than just the topic of baptism by itself. And I knew that brother. I wasn’t I hope I didn’t sound like I was pointing all these things at you. You just made me think. Your your question started getting me thinking and so I just started spitting out stuff. So I appreciate you. Thank you that. Okay. Daria, you’re up. Hello, shalom to everybody. Um, I I just want to share uh some kind of like experience of testimony from my life with the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
But please, if it’s inappropriate, just stop me, okay? Because uh I don’t want to be like saying things uh uh like to bother some somebody with things that I don’t know. I don’t want what I say if to have anybody problem with but with that but what I experienced when I was just about three months um in faith in 1991 and everything was new for me and it was in my country in the Czech Republic. It was just shortly after the the communism fell down. So the uh missionaries especially from the state and Canada they they were coming um here to the Czech Republic and sharing uh the faith um and you know uh and God was sending missionaries here.
So after about 3 months in in faith, I went to a conference where there was a missionary from the states. I think his name was 1 hour, 8 minutes Jimmy Sanders. And at that conference, I was baptized with the Holy Spirit. And I started to speak in tongues straight away. Uh but the pro I mean it’s funny the the problem was that at that time I was actually um not a member but I was uh attending uh 7 days Adventist church uh because uh a friend of mine was there.
So I went there and I was just only maybe a few few months there and uh uh of course the experience you know it was just it was overwhelming and I didn’t know what’s what’s that because I was new uh to to faith and everything was new for me. I was learning. So I went to pastor uh in the Adventist church and then I had to kneel before the the sofa and I had to confess the others as a sin and and because he told me that it’s it’s bad. It’s not you know it’s sin. So and he he he said don’t you know don’t talk that like that. I said but it’s bubbling you know it’s bubbling there. And he said don’t do that. Okay.
So I tried to obey him but what happened I know it it may be it may not be like u I didn’t know how to explain that but the thing is when I stopped speaking in tongues because of fear because I was because I was said that it’s from the devil for a few days I was just like filled with electricity inside me whatever I touched the water in the from the running from the faucet or the metal, you know, the handle of the door. I was just kicked by, you know, by the electricity and I was so afraid always when I tried to to uh touch a handle, you know, I was like going that and I was always like, you know, like that because it was kicking. 1 hour, 10 minutes So that that’s funny.
And so and I said, I can’t help myself. I have just have to speak with that because it was just full of me. So eventually I left the church and then I met people who had the same experience then and then I was a member of the Pentecostal church. Uh and then one day in [clears throat] I want to say another thing shortly when I was in England working as a volunteer that time I was very very deeply in in rejection. Okay. And during the Christmas time there uh in a conference center something happened and I was hurt inside very much and it was like my heart was bleeding uh emotionally and I went outside and I was just crying a [clears throat] river I was crying because it was hurting very much.
Somebody has disappointed me and hurt me and it was huge. So I and I didn’t know how to pray because I just didn’t have words. So I was walking around the lake in the snow and I was just pouring out my sorrow, my disappointment, my bitterness, everything up to God in tanks because I didn’t know how to pray. And and I believe that God has answered this prayer and after after the on the 2nd of January uh he uh that year I think 93 94 he sent uh like a divine appointment.
He sent a wonderful prayer warrior to my life and Yeshua through her ministry actually miraculously led me away from the from the rejection because I couldn’t accept I I didn’t understand from the Bible that I am accepted that I don’t have to do things to be accepted you know I had to do things to deserve the people’s love people’s attention God’s attention you So I was doing the things like that and suddenly when she prayed with me it’s like my eyes were open and I said I don’t have to you know I don’t have to do things in order to be loved and that was that was for me a great revelation and I believe that was because of this time when I was praying in tongues because I didn’t know how to pray.
So for me the gift of the Holy Spirit I don’t speak about that that I have you know I don’t speak in or on in front of people like even in church just it’s for me it’s for my personal education and it helps me to express my love or when I pray for people I know when I pray in thanks I pray always according to God’s will when I praying in thanks uh because it’s a spiritual gift so that’s what only I want to say that this helped me to get out of the great great burden in my life which was rejection and uh so that I I believe that this gift is still here for us even as apostle Paul said that he wished that each of us would should have it but of course there are still a lot of things from the churchity I I have to unlearn but from my own experience I know that this gift is here for us to help us that’s All I wanted to say.
Thank you. Okay. Well, thank you, Sister Daria. Are you bleeding on your chin? Do you do you have a little owie there? It’s Yeah, it’s um Sorry. Um I have problem with the skin. Sometimes it just uh it’s something like when you have on the on the lips on the lips. So, it it it it just travels and it goes down. So I’m I have a little pasta to you know for to help me healing but it’s the skin disease I probably have. I don’t know it happens. Okay. I just wanted to check times two times in a in a year it happens. So now I am just getting heal like being slowly healed. All right. Well thank you so much Daria for sharing. Okay Gordon you’re up. Shabbash shalom everyone.
Um, I think one of the biggest things about I’ll try to make this clear because I’m sure there’s quite a bit of other people that are raising their hands as well. Speak up, brother. Speak into your microphone. We’re having a hard time hearing you. Sorry about that. Uh, can you hear me? Yes, sir. Okay. Sorry about that. Um, so one of the things about um about baptism and other things, I mean, you and I basically we come from the same thing as far as that goes. So we know all the rules and the points A, B, C, and D, and we know all that as far as that goes, as far as what we were grown up in. Um, one of the things I wanted to basically mention about is Simon the Sorcerer.
In the book of Acts, there’s a guy named Simon the Sorcerer. And Simon the sorcerer did all these amazing things and everything like that. And he for some apparent reason he did repent. He did get baptized. But then he’s walking around with the other disciples. And then he sees the laying of the hands of the apostles and then he says, “Give me this ability as well so I can go and proclaim the Lord’s will.” He was trying to use it as a means of justification. He was trying to buy it as far as that goes. And I feel like in today’s standards, basically the gifts of the Holy Spirit was by the laying on of the apostles.
So the apostles could lay it on to other disciples, but they themselves couldn’t transfer it. It had to basically be from the apostles because Jesus had given the apostles that. And so that’s one of the things I’m thinking about. The other thing about it is as someone said mentioned to me that like there’s different forms of receiving the Holy Spirit, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The problem is with that is we don’t have direct set examples because those examples are actually fueled all the way in the book of Acts. And every person that goes through it basically gets a watered baptism. This can be u the 2,000 that were baptized. The Jews 2,000 Jews.
This can be basically um the um uh Philip and the unic as far as this can be the jailer. This could be Cornelius. This can be Paul. This can be all all different other types. There’s not a different other means of baptism. And we also have to understand that baptism is Hebrew and Hebrew in alone of itself is based upon the idea of mikvah. And that mikvah has water going in, water going out. So even if a person was baptized in say a horsedraw, that water is going to basically be let go anyways. So all I’m just saying in these types of things is that we have to be aware of what’s going on.
The other thing I just wanted to say about uh speaking in tonesues before I was a Christian, I used to be into Wikah. And one of the things about Wiccan circles more than anything else is they start speaking in tongues once they start going along with the music and other things like that they start acting wild and crazy and start speaking in unknown tongues as well. So we have to be very careful how we display as far as what is what and what is which because the gift of the Holy Spirit one of the fruits of it is self-control and we need to understand that self-control. So that’s it. My two cents. Thanks. Amen, brother. Thank you, Cordon. Although I only saw your forehead the entire time.
It’s good to There you go. It’s good to see your face. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Sorry about that. I wanted to speak into the microphone properly. All right. Thank you, brother. Okay, Samuel, you are up, sir. Shabbat shalom. Brother Cordon’s forehead is very wise. Um and it and it speaks um some factual things that we need to take into consideration. I I think people um missed the point of of Yah’s spirit. His spirit is the spirit of truth, ultimate truth. That means that if you are immersed into anything other than submission to Messiah and covenant and walking according to Torah, you are not immersed in Yah’s spirit.
So you need to you have to be very careful with this very careful because yes there is a Hebraic commandment and tradition of immersion within a mikvah. The mikvah is basically the collection of waters but the immersion is actually supposed to happen within living waters in order for the cleansing to occur. And there is an order to things because our father is not about this order. He’s very much about order of operation. Which is why you don’t get the goodies before you go through the proper methodology in order to secure your bride before you consummate the relationship. Because what we’re talking about here is covenant. We’re not talking about willy-nilly and feel good, be good.
We’re talking about covenant and covenant order. And when we talk about the spirit of Yah, we’re talking about the seven spirits as as described by the prophet Isaiah. So, you know, you think about the the the various things that happens with the set aart spirit of Yah and its in its many manifestations. And according to Isaiah, we have the actual spirit of Yahw. We have the spirit of wisdom and we have the spirit of understanding, the spirit of counsel, the spirit of might, the spirit of knowledge and the spirit of the fear of Yah. And so if you think about it in those terms and you look and you see how it it how it presents itself in various forms.
For example, when we talk about the spirit of Mike, you the first thing that should come to mind, Samson, when he was in need and the spirit came upon him, he was given supernatural strength and able to do mighty deeds as a judge of Israel. You want to talk about the the spirit of of wisdom or the spirit of understanding and counsel, Solomon or slow-mo, that is what he had. And so I don’t see where Schlommo or Solomon ever lost the spirit of wisdom throughout his life. He did some things that cost him and he had to repent because he went whoring after strange women of other nations wedding to them and end up following their Elohim in his old age.
So the idea that the the set aart spirit can can dwell within a defiled temple that’s not within the set aart scriptures. It is not. Which is why you have to go through the tila in the mikvah. That’s why you go through that process because it’s about cleansing. And you have to be clear about what you mean by repent. is not saying I’m sorry saying I’m sorry for everything I did. It’s to turn. So if you are not a part of the covenant, what are you turning to? What are you returning to? You’re either returning to the covenant because you were a part of it or you are coming into the covenant new. And now you’re joining yourself to the house of Israel. And now you are committing to Messiah.
You are committing to the most high. you are committing to walk with the yoke of Torah. So ultimately the whole idea is when we talk about the the set aart spirit indwelling in us, we’re ultimately talking about the truth indwelling in us. What is the truth? The truth is Torah. If you’re speaking anything other than Torah, you’re not speaking with the set aart spirit. All you have to do is read Deuteronomy 13 and Deuteronomy 18 to get a clear understanding. Somebody can come and they can say they’re doing all types of wonderful miracles. They can say they’re speaking in tongues. They can say they’re having dreams. They can tell the future.
They can do so many things, but they’re not pointing back to Torah. They’re not pointing back to the instructions which are of the tree of life. So if you tell me that you having all these wonderful experiences, but Torah is not coming out of your mouth, you’re not trying to walk within those ordinances that have been given to us that are for our benefit. I don’t believe it. You can claim Jesus, Yeshua, Yahusha, all you want. If you’re not trying to walk within those commandments, you’re not walking within a spirit or or it’s a different spirit. Not so not necessarily a godly one. Well, that that that other Elohim, but but but orah, but not but not Yah Yahovah Elohim.
So, I I see this a lot of times with with a lot of, you know, Christians. I I see it with some who are 1 hour, 24 minutes who are coming out of Christianity into Hebrew roots or into Messianic circles. And what they do is they draw in their their Christian understanding and experience because they’re still going through a process of cleansing. And that’s what it means to be immersed within the set aart spirit. You’re going through that continual cleansing because you are supposed to be receiving the instruction by actually reading speaking Torah when you’re actually reading the prophets and you’re applying it to your life and you’re doing the best that you can. But the father does.
He continues to grant you wisdom and mercy and understanding so you can apply those things. But the commitment has to be to honor the covenant. And you honor the covenant by honoring his instructions. If it’s not Torah, it is not the spirit of Yah because it is not truth. That’s all I wanted to share, brother Ed. Thank you. 1 hour, 25 minutes Brother, thank you, Samuel. Okay, Jim is up, but David Well, it’s not me. Christine wanted to share something. She’s been waiting patiently, so I’ll give up in a second.
But before that, I just want to make another uh brief uh comment not related directly to the lesson, but uh just wanted to share, you shared earlier about the edifying time that we had all of us together. And I also wanted to share that this past week I had the the privilege uh to be able to actually connect for a meal with Samuel. Uh I traveled to Chicago on business and I knew that he lives in the area and we were able to connect. Uh and it was an incredible very edifying time. Uh some of you here know that Christine and I when we were in Europe we got to connect also with Daria. Um and so I just you know again well within that theme of us all here experiencing wilderness.
Uh I want to encourage you also if you know of someone part of this community or any other community where you share similar beliefs encourage you to make the effort to connect with them right to reach out to initiate uh it is very edifying uh and it’s great to you know connect with one another face to face. Yes, we are connecting here virtually, you know, on Saturdays, but there is a difference when you connect face to face, when you break bread together, when you pray together, when you talk about spiritual things, it is very uplifting and and edifying. So, I just wanted to put that out there to encourage us all um to take advantage of those opportunities.
Um well I I think it’s important for us to make a distinction and maybe we need to study it out a little bit more but um Cornelius uh the story of Cornelius in Acts 10 and in Acts 15 um where Cornelius was not Torah observant um but was uh received the Holy Spirit because of his faith. in Acts 15 where Peter, you know, explicitly identifies um the spirit coming upon the Gentiles. They also were not um Torah observant. Um and neither in Deuteronomy 13 or 18 establishes comprehensive Torah um knowledge as a prerequisite for receiving the spirit. And I think it’s really important that we walk, don’t get too close to a line where we’re saying that you have to know everything.
You have to have faith where you are understanding everything before you receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Because that means none of us here have it. That means we’ve never had it and we likely never will because on this side of heaven, we are not going to know everything. And as far as being a master of the Torah, I do believe that we are called to be Bereans and we’re called to test these things. We’re called to remain students and to increase our faith. And as we learn, we obey. And that is what sa that’s the spirit that saves us.
But I think we’re getting really close to this line where we’re making really strong statements saying that unless you are walking fully in Torah and and you are a master at the Torah, then you are not speaking, you’re not walking with you don’t have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. And I think that’s dangerous because there are just too many other biblical accounts where that is not the case. Um, and so I just wanted to put that out there. And again, Ed, maybe we need to study that. I know you and I have talked about that many times.
Um, but I feel this the need to say that as more and more conversation comes forward talking about, you know, I I’m not saying that Yahw’s commands don’t matter. I do think there’s two strong biblical truths that Yahw’s commandments matter and that his people, us, we must follow those commands. We must obviously be obeying him according to the measure of faith that we’ve been given. And the indwelling of the spirit that we were given with the mustard seed size of faith that we had at baptism continues to lead us on into deeper truths, deeper understandings. Which is why he says we need to increase in these things in increasing measure under the assumption that we will never arrive.
This is an ongoing journey. And the second truth is that Yahw can give his spirit to people who are still learning in his ways and has those who are not Torah observant yet, but they are obedient to what they do know. I believe according to the Bible that God sees that heart and grants that because of their faith grants them they receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit at baptism. in order for me to believe something else, I would need I’ve studied these things out. I would just need some scriptures that would refute that. Um, but I just felt like we I needed to say we have to be really careful here. Um, how uh and we’ll include that in our discussion.
I think that I’m sure I’m sharing my screen. You can see this. Yes. Yes. Okay. Uh, make sure we understand something here. I think what Samuel was alluding to was that no one gets an indwelling of the Holy Spirit un unless they are circumcised in their heart. And that’s the point that I made here. A person who displays a circumcised heart to obey him. And this is something that the only the father knows for sure. He can see into the heart. He knows when a heart is circumcised. 1 hour, 31 minutes These people here in Acts two, they needed to shove, they needed to repent and return to what they know to be true because these people were all Jews, right?
They needed to repent of their um lack of faith in Christ, understanding of who he was. And then here in Acts five, the father is pleased or wants to give the Holy Spirit to those who obey him. As Tim correctly stated, this is not meant to give us license to force people to be obedient before they come to faith. That’s not what this is. No, this is this this is the father knows who wants to obey him and who doesn’t. Who intends to obey him and who doesn’t. Okay. Long before they get to this point, he he knows what’s true in a person’s heart. And I think what Samuel’s trying to say is as it pertains to speaking in tongues, as it were, is a good point.
A lot of people in Christian churches, regardless of the flavor, claim to be able to do things like speaking in tongues, but they are far from covenant. They are not walking in covenant. They believe in who is in who Jesus is, you know, in part, but they don’t have an understanding of what covenant is. And so, if that’s the case, if they’re outside of covenant, they don’t understand covenant, they don’t understand walking in the spirit, then how can they be having godly manifestations of speaking in tongues come out of them? So that’s a good question to be asked to point to Christine’s the my comment on Christine’s point.
Yes, we see the pouring out of the spirit on the Samaritans, on the Gentiles, on Cornelius. And when they realized the the pouring out was happening which is not indwelling then they were baptized and receive the indwelling. [clears throat] Okay. So those are very important distinctions to be made as we’re looking at these uh issues so that we excuse me so that we can understand them better. But I think another lesson is probably going to be good uh for this so that we can look at all those angles. Okay. Thank you, David Christine. Uh by the way, David Samuel, tall guy, short guy, fat guy, bald guy, what’s the story? No body shaming, brother. No body shaming.
There’s no such thing as body shaming here. Um, [laughter] no. He’s perfect as God created him. Amen. Okay. Amen. Right. So, that’s diplomatic. Go ahead, Jim. I truly enjoyed our time together. So, it was great. Okay. Um, couple of distinctions that uh I’m not proposing uh that I’ve sorted it, you know, the the answers out, but a couple of distinctions exist in my mind between um what’s described as the gift of tongues and a prayer language. Uh so this might be uh further uh clarified through discussion and uh contemplation. Um seems like the gift of tongues was given for the purpose clearly of understanding.
And um you know if you look at your scripture the the first dividing of tongues was that the tower of babel and it seems to me that Acts chapter 2 is a reversal. Um in Genesis 11 you have people gathered together with one mind and one purpose. Same things going on in Acts chapter 2. one mind, one purpose. And uh you have the dividing of tongues being given in both events, Acts chapter 2 as well as Genesis 11. But one is for the division of humanity and the other is for the gathering of humanity. So we have this tremendous reversal going along in Acts chapter 2.
And that seems to apply specifically to uh understanding that humanity might be um gathered together as one family through understanding. Now, now the prayer language seems to be something specifically given for that’s above or beyond understanding, you know, and and in my opinion, I I I too have these uh this experience of speaking in an unknown tongue. But for me, I don’t think I’ve ever experienced the gift of tongues. I think what I experience is a prayer language. um because when uh that takes place in my life, it is around intercession. It’s never within a body or an assembly or anything like that.
So uh for for me, there’s a distinction in my own mind between prayer language and tongues. And I think to the degree that anything genuine is taking place in the charismatic community, whether that’s uh Torah observant or the Sunday Easter Christmas, to the degree that anything genuine is happening in those gatherings where glossalia or you know, whatever you want to call it is taking place, I believe most people are experiencing prayer language. And because I I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen the gift of tongues take place.
I have heard stories about um events like this taking place in missionary communities or going out and and um they’ll have perfect understanding of a language they don’t understand or be able to communicate in a language that they don’t that to me is the gift of tongues. Okay. So that’s one distinction that may help people um navigate this uh controversial question.
Um the second one is I believe that there’s a distinction between the Hebrew word mikvah and what gets translated into our English texts as baptism that comes from baptismo and um again a distinction exists in my mind not that I have an answer for this between mikvah which seems to be uh a cleansing which takes something away you know we have the removal of of dirt um from our our human condition. Whereas baptismo had to do with the uh the fabric industry where where a piece of white linen would be baptized into a vat of purple dye and something a quality is added to the fabric so that you have these two distinctions.
One, the mikvah is taking something away um where the baptismo is adding a quality to. And so, um, I’m not sure what’s going on with our mikvah. Maybe we need to introduce a new term, a mikvvis, if you will, and, uh, be very careful what we are baptizing ourselves into. Um, you know, like, uh, I I’ve heard some discussion on the, you know, being baptized into a Sunday Easter Christmas community who has no concept of, um, that Torah is still applicable and still governs our lives. So that’s a that’s caution. But did something not take place or or did something wrong take place if even in our ignorance?
You know, we are coming to the Lord and repenting of our sins even in the context of a Sunday Easter Christmas. I I I believe that you know what Samuel was speaking to. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that the trajectory, the end, the fruit of a genuine baptism and mikvah would be the production of obedience. And so the the ultimate fruit of our conversion is going to be obedience to the father and his ways. Um we may take some you know tangents we may take some rabbit trails in our spiritual journey but uh the father alone gets to determine what genuinely happened in a in a person’s heart.
Whether that context is Sunday Easter Christmas and coming to the simple message of Jesus Christ our sin bearer. Yes and amen. or whether that is a a deeper understanding of the path and the way. So those are the two distinctions that I wanted to bring forward for uh your consideration and um Dave and and Ed um Tim whoever’s involved in in the discussion of of mikvah and baptism um maybe that will contribute to what you bring to us. Anyhow, God bless. Thank you, brother. Appreciate. Okay, we’re going to have Freddy up next. Now, we have one, two, three, four, five people that want to share. We’ve got about five minutes before we got to cut this off.
So, each of you have about a minute to share. If you see me sending up a rocket in the reactions, that’s me gently telling you that it’s time to stop so somebody else can share. Okay, Freddy, you’re up next. Shalom. Shalom everybody. Just wanted to introduce myself. My first time here. God bless y’all. Let me call you right back. Thank you Freddie. Yes sir. And I got a a brother right here, brother Rene. Want to share something. How y’all doing? God bless y’all, man. We’re on our way. Taking a little drive right now. God bless y’all. Shabbat shalom. Shabbat shalom. 1 hour, 41 minutes Hallelujah. Wanted to share something real quick short on on the baptism.
Uh we see it’s a command given by the Lord himself. And you know he said if you love me keep my commandments. So just like the same way we keep Torah we got to acknowledge that the immersion is a command and it’s a must that is done exclusively in the name of Yeshua Messiah as we see fulfilled in the book of Acts. And we see many examples like Romans 6:34, Colossians through 2:9-14 where the Apostle Paul’s comparing it to the physical circumcision as brother Ed shared that the heart must be circumcised and then you repent.
You know, you repent, you go down in that water fulfilling the word of God in your life and allowing the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit to fill you up, to lead you, to guide you, to direct your every step and your every stop. Love these guys. So I just wanted to share that man because it’s so important because a lot of people nowadays they say oh baptism is not necessary that’s a outward works if inward grace. No that’s error. It’s a command given to us specifically by the Lord Yeshua. So just a short word. I know Ed has a time limit man but but God bless all of y’all. I thank y’all for Amen fellas. You be safe on the road there. It’s great to have you. Appreciate you coming. Shalom. Shalom.
Shalom. Shalom. Okay, Amy, you’re up. Hi. Shabbat. Shalom. How cool was that? Yeah, I love that. Oh my goodness. Um, so I just wanted to say because and I’ll make it really quick. I And I talked to you um personally. I think it was like the first time um I I tuned in and I mentioned how thankful and grateful I was with Christine’s comment. I don’t really think that she realizes how much the Holy Spirit speaks through her. She’s like a breath of fresh air. And so I just want to say again, you couldn’t have like, you know, um said what you said any clearer than what you said.
And I thank you so much, Christine, for um for just letting the Holy Spirit speak through you because I think a lot of confusion can creep in. the enemy will use any tiny little, you know, any way. And I think that, you know, like you said, we have to be careful because, you know, before I learn Torah, I love Jesus. I loved him so much. But it’s when God decides he’s going to show you Torah, but the Holy Spirit is still indwelling in you and you still have a prayer language. Thank you, Jim. Oh my gosh, perfect. Yes, Daria. Your experience was real. That’s the Holy Spirit. Oh my goodness. Anyway, we don’t have long or I don’t have long to say this. I know I’m getting off.
Thank you so much, Christine. You’re amazing. Praise the Lord. Thank you. Oh, amen, Amy. Appreciate you. Okay, Michael, you’re up. Hey, wonderful things. Very important discussion. Awesome stuff. [clears throat] So, I would appreciate a continued discussion on this subject as it’s quite controversial, I find.
Um but some of the posture that I have uh in response to what you’ve been saying uh with the wonderful lesson is uh how do you then address Isaiah 28 which is a a link or a reference for this speaking of tongues or this uh yeah the speaking of tongues uh where the prophet is uh saying issuing a rebuke for you you Guys, you only want to have it precept upon precept and precept, you know, line upon line. This is how I understand it. And I’m just paraphrasing now. But, uh, I will speak to you with stammering lips and another tongue, you know, is what he’s saying. And this is the rest wherewith you cause the weary to rest, and this is the refreshing. Yet they would not hear.
So, I would appreciate some discussion about that. That’s one thing I bring up. And also like for me uh speaking in in the spirit, speaking in tongues, this is what really provoked me as a Jewish person in Germany of all places to jealousy. This is I mean this power charge of the spirit that Daria spoke of and I so appreciate Christine’s words and the last lady’s words too was what brought me to tears you know that just opened my rockh hard heart and I just have to hear from you um how do you harmonize this posture with what Paul says when he says I that you all speak in in spirit, you know, in tongues and that it’s given for self-edification.
How could we be saying, you know, we don’t need that anymore? Uh if if it’s sorry, I’m getting just now distracting me. If it’s given for self-edification. So um I think one of the main misunderstandings or differences of uh opinion is people discount the praying in the spirit or praying in the tongues because they’re expecting oh that I suddenly speak Russian or French. But if I’m edifying myself by praying in tongues, how does it edify me to speak in French? From my understanding of Isaiah 28, it’s not to be understood. And the miracle that happened in Acts two was that the people gathered were hearing. That was the miracle. They were hearing in their own tongue.
So this is the difference that I think it divides. So there’s there’s so much that could be said, but thank you so much for the lesson today and Amen, brother. Yes, I will try to include Isaiah 28 in this lesson. Good stuff. Okay, Luke, you got one minute, brother. Bring it on. All right. Thank you, brother Ed. Shabbat shalom. Uh, Acts 10, I’m sorry, Matthew 10, uh, 10:19. But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what you shall speak, for it shall be given you in that same hour what you shall speak. People say speaking in tongues is speaking in another language or some foreign gibberish or something that nobody understands. It could be as simple as that.
When you’re having a conversation with somebody and you’re discussing your beliefs against their beliefs or you’re having a discussion on Torah, it will be given to you if you are in the Holy Spirit. And [clears throat] I just wanted to address what Christine said. Um, Matthew uh 15 20- 21. But we write unto them that they abstain from pollution of idols, from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood. Four things we need to do immediately. Four Torah observations that we need to do right out of the gate. If we want the velvet ropes to part and we want to join hands with the commonwealth of our brother and sister, this is what we need to do.
For Moshe of all time has in every city them that preach him being read in the synagogues every Sabbath. We need to have a willing heart to drop everything that we’ve learned in the past and to start walking a new path. That to me is conviction. That to me is walking in the Holy Spirit. Amen. Brother Luke, good insight. Thank you so much, everyone. Wow, did this lesson bring up some thoughts and feelings and exp, you know, that’s awesome. I love that. And you know what’s what’s more is our audience loves that. the people who watch us online, they make more comments about you guys than they do about me.
And so that’s amazing and I love that that you guys get to share your insights and your thoughts, your questions, and even your challenges. So, next week we’ll come back and we’ll do round two before we jump into the wilderness stuff with David and um and we’ll see what we can find out. Looking forward to that, guys. Have a wonderful a wonderful Shabbat and a great rest of your weekend. and we’ll see you back here soon. Love you all. Shalom everyone. Have a good week everyone. Shalom. Shalom. Blessings in total agreement. Shalom. Great teaching today. Thank you. Amen. Yeah. Shalom. Hang up. What you got? Five. Love you. [laughter] I love you too, Daria. Right. Let it feel.
